How to Play Dots / Junk

Dots (also called Junk) is a set of golf side bets where small achievements — birdies, sandies, greenies, barkies — each earn a "dot" worth a fixed amount, settled on top of your main game. Here's what each one means and how to keep score.

What's the deal?

Dots, also called Junk, is a collection of mini side-bets that run on top of your main game. Special achievements each earn a "dot" worth a set dollar amount, and the player with the most dots collects the difference from everyone at the end.

The classics: Birdie (make one), Sandie (up and down from a bunker), Greenie (closest to the pin on a par 3 and make par), Arnie (make par without ever hitting the fairway), and the legendary Barkie — hit a tree and still make par. Yes, the Barkie is real, and it is glorious.

Setting the stakes: pick a value per dot ($0.50–$2 is typical) and agree which dots are in play before you tee off. Tally dots through the round and settle the net difference at the 19th.

🏌️ First Tee Tip You must call your dot BEFORE you achieve it — no retroactive Barkies. Announce it out loud: "I'm going for the Barkie." Then pull off the par. The public commitment is what makes dots fun.

Now Grab the Hat.

Wear it, call your Barkie out loud, and make the par to back it up.
