What's the deal?
Shamble is the lovechild of a scramble and stroke play. Everyone tees off, you pick the best drive like a scramble, and then everyone plays their own ball from that spot all the way into the hole.
It takes the most stressful shot in golf — the tee ball — out of the equation, while still letting everyone play their own game the rest of the way. You still have to make your putts. You still own your approach shots. But everyone starts from a good spot.
Setting the stakes: decide up front how the hole scores — the team's best individual score, or the best two scores added together — then bet it as a match or a buy-in pot. Best-two-scores keeps every player involved on every hole.
How to play Shamble
- 1Everyone hits their tee shot.
- 2Pick the best drive. Everyone moves their ball to that spot.
- 3From there, everyone plays their own ball — stroke play the rest of the way in.
- 4Score the hole by the team's best individual score, or best two scores added — decide before you start.
- 5Lowest team score wins the hole. Settle the match or pot at the 19th.
